The original lyrics of the Christmas song, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," were not as cheerful as the later revisions. The first version had sad lyrics, such as; "Have yourself a merry little Christmas
It may be your last... ."

This Christmas song was penned by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane and as included in the music for the movie, "Meet Me In St. Louis." The cast of the movie, especially Judy Garland, requested a much happier lyric-as did Frank Sinatra before he recorded the song. There is even a Christian version of this song. "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" has been performed by several singers, including; Mel Torme, Judy Garland, Clay Aiken, Twisted Sister, Jeremy Camp, and Sam Smith.
Here's a video playlist with a few different versions of the Martin and Blane Christmas song;
